I chose my mother, Jennifer Gilbert, to be my mentor for my capstone.
1. I chose my mom to be my mentor because she had run this service project through our church before.
2. My mom is a determined, hard-working, passionate worker who cares a lot about helping others. She is a great leader which is why she has been in charge of many other events at our church. She has great perseverance and is quick to come up with solutions to problems that arise.
3. My mom helped to show me the ropes and make sure that I didn't forget the small details that are important in running a large project. She kept me focused on the big picture and helped me work through any challenges that came my way.
4. I learned from my mom that planning an event like this takes a lot of perseverance. There are going to be many bumps in the road or people that complain which can easily discourage you. You have to be able to look past all of that and keep in mind why you are running the project in the first place. It takes a lot of positivity and perseverance.
5. As previously mentioned, my mom had done this service project before and so she had already worked out a lot of the kinks. She was the adult overseeing the project and making sure it ran smoothly.
